Long time leader and Fairfax City Resident Vanessa Cárdenas to Run in the Democratic Primary for District 11
Vanessa brings decades of experience as a state and national leader
Fairfax, Virginia – Vanessa Cárdenas announced her candidacy to be the Democratic nominee in the upcoming special election for Virginia’s 11th House of Delegates District (HD-11). A proven leader and community advocate, Vanessa brings decades of experience fighting for working families. While firehouse primaries are a whirlwind process, Vanessa believes in maintaining a robust democratic process and letting voters choose.
A longtime Fairfax City resident and fighter for progressive causes, Vanessa earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Public Administration from George Mason University. The first in her family to graduate from college, she understands both the possibilities and challenges facing working families. Through quality public education, strong community support, and access to opportunity, Vanessa and her family were able to realize the American Dream. Her campaign is built upon her belief that every family should be able to do the same. Cárdenas said:
“I am fired up to run in the primary for the VA Assembly representing District 11. This moment is only possible for me because of the promise and opportunity of the American Dream. I am running because I believe that we have a responsibility to rebuild and strengthen the ladder of opportunity for everyone. This moment requires courage and bold leadership to fight back against the Trump Administration’s abuses of power. I am prepared for this moment and I intend to meet it.
